Winter Sports Seasons Get Underway
Monday, November 12th, was the first day of high school winter sports practice as allowed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Three sports teams began practice that day--girls basketball, boys basketball, and wrestling. Over the next few weeks, the coaches and players will be working hard to develop the conditioning, knowledge, and skills necessary to compete in each of the sports.
Girls Basketball
Sixteen girls reported for the first day of high school girls basketball practice. The team will be coached by Susan Dinkel. David Morrow will be her assistant. The girls working for positions on the team include:
Seniors: Laura Brunk, Aubrey Mills, and Clarice Neitzel
Sophomores: Kyla Bandel, Mariah Beikman, Aby Fernandez, Justice Wiley, and Valerie Wurm
Freshmen: Emily Elfers, Alexis Frink, CarolEve Harris, Journey Lee, Kayla Reed, Kylie Sherlock, Sydney Sundstrom, and McKenzie Taylor
Boys Basketball
Jeff Beims will serve as head coach for the boys basketball team. Nick O'Loughlin will be the assistant coach. Boys reporting for the first practice were:
Seniors: Caleb Frink, Joey McCormick, Steven Nelson, Dylan Peter, Keegan Sherlock, and Dillion Straub
Juniors: Jacob Baxter, Wyatt Landenberger, Lenny Olivares, Julian Sipsey-Rice, and Mason Schiltz
Sophomores: Cade Bracelin, Nicky Easter, Jon Hoard, and Kyler Zweygardt
Freshmen: Payton Beims, Jakob Church, Carl Fabre, Jude Faulkender, Francisco Fernandez, Wade Jones, Austin Patton, and Travis Rogers
The girls and boys basketball teams will open competition on Friday, November 30, when they travel to Oberlin to play the Decatur Community Red Devils.
Wrestling
The wrestling team will be coached by Dylan Loyd. Dylan will be beginning his first season as head wrestling coach. Kyle Buffington will serve as assistant coach. Boys reporting for wrestling practice include:
Seniors: Zach Gienger, Blaine Guggenmos, Casey Keller, Mikey Leibbrandt, Tyler Raby, and Dylan Wolaver
Juniors: Logan Lampe, Austin White, Matt White, and J.T. Woodcox
Sophomores: Shakotah Blanka and Matt Howell
Freshmen: Garrett Brunk, Clay Cassaw, Lane Hobrock, Blake Meyer, Justin Pacheco, Philip White.
Serving as mat maids will be Taylor Archibald, Ashlee Orth, Dallas Reed, and Aly Schlepp.
Wrestling competition will get underway on December 1st. The varsity wrestling team will participate in the St. Francis Invitational Wrestling Tournament while the junior varsity wrestlers will be competing in the Goodland JV Tournament.
