Cheyenne County Showdown
By Adam Krien
The men's basketball teams between the Cheylin Cougars and the St. Francis Indians started off with quick points scored by the Indians to pull ahead early in the ball game. The Cougars made a comeback in the second quarter to trail the Indians by eight at half with the score being 28-20. Freshman Preston Weitzel said, “We knew we had the size advantage with our posts and at halftime Coach Busse said we needed to move the ball better and get it inside.” The third quarter the Indians increased their lead and never looked back. The Indians were able to get the JV players in at the end of the game. The Indians won the Cheyenne County Showdown 55-34. Junior Jesse Baxter said, “When we moved the ball in the second half, it was easier for me to get open and have better shots.” Freshman Ben Busse said the Indians shot accurately and well early on to help set the stage for a lead they didn't give up. “At the start of the game we shot the ball well against their zone defense and were able to get an early lead,” Busse said. American Implement sponsored the game so admission and popcorn was free to attendees of the game.
Friday, Feb. 21 will be the last home game for the Indians and Senior Night where basketball players, pep band members and Saint Francis’s senior winter cheerleader will be recognized.
